Yesterday was a very, very hard day.... a lot of challenging riding and climbing in thick mud and walking/pushing bike up steep hills. 120 miles, on only 3 hours of sleep. He made it to the border at 2:30 a.m. last night (only falling 10 miles short of his goal of Eureka, MT). His remark this morning, "This is a really hard race. This is unbelievably hard." And we figured with his alpinist sensibility, he had a pretty good sense of the pain and suffering that this would entail. He was advised the first four days can be the hardest.

John spent the morning resting and refueling in Eureka and plans to camp outside Whitefish this evening (only 90 miles today). We both think he should plan on a full night's sleep tonight. Onward!
