The name of this pack was inspired by Dinosaur Jr. as it's a full 3rd redesign of the Higg's boson, it had changed enough to warrant a new name. it's slightly thinner and narrower than the Higgs. I had never been happy with the shape, despite local guides really liking it. Also, the VX51 has gotten very hard to source so I switched up the fabrication as well.
The big change is the roll top front pocket. I had wanted to do away with the zipper to make it more weatherproof and simpler to work with gloves on. It fits my G3 Avitech shovel, which is about as big a shovel you would carry.
This pack is designed to work reasonably well with a ski helmet on. the lift straps are sewn into the top seam, so it never rides up your back. It's slightly wider than my alpine packs, yet thinner for load control and not throwing you off balance.
The pack has a new roll top opening front shovel/wet gear pocket. The main bag has a #10 YKK water-resistant zipper with a full storm flap. It is set up to carry ski's diagonally or in an A-frame configuration. I use Voile ski straps, with the aluminum, not plastic buckles, for the upper lash strap. the polyurethane web for the tail loop has a velcro keeper strap so it doesn't catch on your crampons.
There is a full 1/2", 12mm, high density closed cell foam pad in the back for support or to sit on. The Fabric is the Dimension Polyant VX42, with the X33 Cordura fabric for the roll top front pocket to take the abuse from metal edges. the bottom and lower rim have 2nd layer od 1600D Ballistics. Inside the pack, the front panel is a zippered pocket that is the size of the full front. The lower tail sleeves have a compression strap to keep things tight.
You can order it, And I will follow up with a phone call or email to sort out all your details: ski carry preference, back length, shoulder strap length, width, spacing, webbing size and color, and hip belt.
